This week I spoke with a classmate named Cheryl Peng. She is a first year at Cal State Long Beach and is studying Communications. Cheryl is from a community in the Los Angeles Country area called Hacienda Heights and has one older sister.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time with friends, as well as doing adventurous things, such as hiking. She loves amusement parks, like “the happiest place on earth,” Disneyland, and Disney’s California Adventure. “Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride” is Cheryl’s favorite ride at Disneyland and “The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror” is her top ride at California Adventure. Her go-to food is burgers and fries from In-n-out.
Cheryl took Art 110 since it seemed like an incredibly fun GE class to take and it is a different and unique way to express herself. Her dream is to become an event planner for weddings.
We had a spitfire portion of our conversation, where I asked Cheryl a bunch of random questions. One interesting fact is she does not like belly buttons. She would choose donuts, specifically sugar, over bagels any day. Teal, lavender, and maroon are her favorite colors and Cheryl likes almost every genre of music except for techno, metal, and country. Her go-to outfit is a pair of leggings, Vans, and a t-shirt. Harry Styles is Cheryl’s celebrity crush and her favorite tv shows of all time are “The Walking Dead” and “Desperate Housewives.” Finally, if she could have dinner with someone who is no longer living, Cheryl would choose Paul Walker, from the “Fast and Furious” franchise.
The ceramic piece above was Cheryl’s favorite item in Samuel Jernigan’s exhibition. She liked the fact that this creature was a colorful, happy children’s toy, yet had a sad look on its face. Cheryl could tell there was a story to tell involving this colorful creature, which ultimately intrigued her greatly.
